key-main_Full Why I cannot connect to internet? :( …I just change my pin number to register for my subject….after that my internet connection was disconnected. There are many questions in our mind. Especially for those who are rush to finish their assignment and so on. But the question is why wireless connection disconnected after changing pin number?

Not many student realize that A&R and CPS already announce this notice through student portal (MyIIUM) and IIUM Main page. Suddenly when students want to register for their subject, the system says ” Wrong Password” . What…wrong password? and at the bottom of the page says change pin.

Why it is happened?

I asked Ir. Jaiz Anuar who is my Project Manager, and he said that our wireless database cannot read such a special characters like

~ , ! , @ ,# , $ ,% ,^ , & , * , ( , )

Maybe some of you already changed your pin number and most of you put some special characters on it. Actually, it is not students fault because the instruction said that you need to put some special characters in order to strengthen your pin.

In addition, when the pin has been changed, the pin number to connect to wireless also will be effected. So, don’t be surprise when your connection suddenly gone when you try to re-connect again. Actually the pin number that you use to enter forĀ  wireless credential is the same with the pin number that you use for subject registration and etc. So, it’s common that if you change your pin number, automatically your pin number for wireless will also changing.

What should I do?

There are 2 options for that kind of problem. You can either;

  • go to A&R (undergraduate) or CPS (Postgraduate) and take your initial pin (6-digit pin), but you need to pay RM3 . Then, when the system ask to change your pin number, make sure you do not put any of the special characters as listed, even though the system asking you to do so.
  • go to Wireless Troubleshooting Counter and ask the person in charge to check your pin whether it is matching to pin number inside our database.

REMEMBER….we cannot change or retrieve student pin number for any kind of reason. Please refer to A&R or CPS instead.
